Gonzalez forced silence and made us uncomfortable

In Washington today, at the March for Our Lives, Parkland student Emma Gonzalez read off a list of her murdered high school classmates then remained silent for the remainder of 6 minutes and 20 seconds since she walked on stage.

That is how long the Parkland attack lasted.

I looked up, uncomfortable. The audience before her grew uncomfortable, not sure what to do. A few shouts. Sporadic applause. Gonzalez remained silent.

It was brilliant. It made us uncomfortable and that is what we should be. Uncomfortable. We cannot afford to be comfortable when our kids are being murdered.

We cannot afford to be silent, either.
