Remembering John McCain: Unwavering. Undimmed. Unequaled.

DlYkvzHXgAEKiNoJohn McCain: You got your wish. You brought us together. Republican. Independent. Democrat. Christians, Jews. Moslems. We sang “America The Beautiful” and “How Great Thou Art.” For a while we put aside petty political differences and just loved our country and the principles for which it stands.

You never got to be president but you received a send off worthy of one.

Going forward we will remember your honor, courage and humor and we will miss your insight even those times we were 180 degrees from your stand.
President George W. Bush: “We will remember him as he was: Unwavering. Undimmed. Unequaled.”
President Barack Obama: “What better way to honor John McCain than as best we can follow his example.” “Recognize there are some things worth risking everything for.”
Henry Kissinger:  “His country’s honor is ours to sustain.”
Earlier today a former colleague asked me what more can we do to ensure the country you loved and served all your life continues on in this most noble experiment in self governance.

I think it was best expressed by another Navy hero, John F. Kennedy, on the day he became our president:

“With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own.”
I am saddened knowing we won’t see the likes of you again in my lifetime. Rest in Peace, John McCain.
