President Trump either can’t understand what he reads or likes to whine and make himself the victim.
Here’s what Trump wrote via Twitter April 24: “I didn’t call Bob Costa of the Washington Post, he called me (Returned his call)! Just more Fake News.”
Trump has labeled coverage “fake news” so long it can’t be taken seriously by anyone with two brain cells to rub together. In this case it is so easily disproved. Here is what Bob Costa, national political reporter for The Washington Post, political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, and moderator of Washington Week on PBS, sent via Twitter about that call:
“President Trump called me this evening, in response to my request for comment on a profile story on a Trump World figure. After speaking on that topic, he took a few questions about his administration’s standoff with Congress. We’ll publish those remarks tonight.”
Key phrase: “in response to my request for comment on a profile story”. The original Tweet clearly indicates Costa contacted Trump first and Trump’s call was responding. Costa also said that in TV interviews.
I know Bob Costa, he’s called me on occasion; he is one of the most professional journalists in the business. He’s not the one spreading fake news.
