Rest well, John Lewis; we got this

John Robert Lewis, you have joined that pantheon of giants that includes Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela who believed all people have a right to be free and were willing to put their life on the line for it.

Always “the boy from Troy” you never sold out, gave up or failed to inspire. You belong to history now and generations not yet born will know of your commitment and sacrifice and quiet leadership by example.

Fate enabled some of us to be closer. For my part I will miss our laughs and talks. And always remember our last chat about a certain mutual annoyance when I said “This too we shall overcome” and you said “We shall not be moved.” Your last words to me.
You were a living legend, hero and a saint — saints are not perfect, just better than the rest of us.
Rest well, my friend, you deserve it. And don’t worry about your life’s work. My friends and I and millions more; we got this. Your truth is marching on. And, John, be assured — we shall not be moved.
Until we meet again,
Bob
