Gov. Christie told a morning TV show he won’t comment on Donald Trump’s controversial comments about immigration. “What we should be talking about are all the significant problems we have in this country,” Christie said. Apparently he thinks lack of comprehensive immigration policy is not a significant problem. Earlier, Christie called the comments inappropriate. “Seriously,” Christie said on TV, “nobody in the real world asks me about this – nobody. You know, but every time I get on a media show all anybody wants to talk about is Donald Trump.” That’s a familiar theme for Christie. If he doesn’t want to talk about “Bridgegate” or anything else embarrassing he says nobody but media asks him. Trump came into the race and immediately hit the Top 10 with Christie close to the bottom. At least one poll has Trump at the No. 1 spot with Jeb Bush. Christie has a lot to lose with Trump in the fold. Christie carefully created an image of himself as the guy who speaks his mind. Trump does it while Christie and the others try to walk a center line. Christie says he is a successful governor. Trump says he is a billionaire and successful businessman. If Christie took on Trump, the real estate magnate could point out Christie’s failures and Trump’s successes, in other words playing the Christie “sit down and shut up — loser” game with the tables turned, giving Christie a dose of his own medicine. That’s what has Christie and the others running scared of Trump.
